1. Also, water works often sing. in use. a) a system of pipes, reservoirs, water towers, pumps, and other equipment, for supplying a city or town with water. b) a building with machinery for pumping water; pumping station.
2. Slang. a flow of tears, especially a sudden and violent flow.
3. Obsolete. an ornamental fountain or cascade.
